Tutoring Program

COMING FALL OF 2009

FAIRHOPE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

CONNECTING WITH ITS COMMUNITY

TUTORING PROGRAM AT THE FAIRHOPE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

We are looking for a few good volunteers who have a heart for children and want to give back to their community through our church.

One hour a week is all that is needed to become involved with this program. Pick your own day/time but you will need to be faithful to that time (Of course, if the time chosen doesn’t work, changes can be made).

This program will be coordinated with the school counselor Barbara Ramsey and the school’s media specialist Kiki Sealy.  The school has in place a reading program called the Accelerated Reading Program.  You will be matched with a child/classroom during   library time.  During this time, your responsibilities will be to  help  the student find an appropriate book, let the child read the book with you, and then assist the child with taking the test on the computer.

An application form will need to be completed along with three recommendations from church staff/members or someone in the Fairhope community.

Our program will begin October 1 and will run through May.

If you are interested, please call Barbara Ramsey (990-2238) or Kathy Sternenberg (928-4962) or email Barbara at bramsey@bcbe.org.

We look forward to this ministry starting in our community.  It is our goal to offer this service to other schools after it has been established for a while.
