“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground unperceived by your Father. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows..” Matthew 10:29,31
Was it worth it?
This week, I had the privilege of spending time with my in-laws as we celebrated our first graduate from high school. To end our time together, I hosted a backyard crawfish boil. (I know you are proud I’m adopting some southern traditions). Honestly, I'm not a fan of creeping, crawling things so it was a little daunting to me at first. But my eight-year-old nephew was so intrigued by the mudbugs, I rode the waves of his enthusiasm.
When the crawfish were done cooking, I poured them onto the table and everyone gathered around, ready to partake of the feast. After several minutes of plucking away to find the tiny piece of meat in the tail, I started wondering, was it worth it?
Was it worth it to drive all the way to the causeway?
Was it worth it to do all this work for this tiny piece of meat?
Was it worth the mess we made in the backyard?
It wasn't long after my internal question that the answer came to me.
YES! It was all worth it!
It was not just about the crawfish. It was about the layering of moments that created an experience. An experience that was filled with curiosity, questions, and laughter.
We often lose sight of how valuable we are to God. We refuse to love ourselves in light of how God loves us. Some of us get stuck and struggle with feelings of low self-worth. May you find comfort today, knowing that your presence in this world matters more than you will ever know.
You may not be able to fully comprehend the depths of your worth, but perhaps that’s the point. Our worth goes beyond what we can see with our natural eyes. Jesus said, you are worth more than the sparrows and our father cares even for them. You are worth it!
Reflection:
Do you question your worth?
Let Us Pray:
Loving Creator, thank you for the reminder that you care for me more than I can comprehend and my presence in this world matters in ways I will never know. I am worth it because I belong to you. Amen
Blessed Love,
