Rev. Michael Precht
Senior Pastor
Rev. Michael Precht was called to ministry at age 15 and has been a United Methodist pastor since 2007. He has Bachelor of Arts in English from Furman University (2003) and a Masters of Divinity from Duke University, and served most recently as pastor of Dauphin Way UMC in Mobile, AL.
Michael was raised in Montgomery, AL, where he met his wife of 20 years, the Rev. Jennifer Poole Precht. Michael and Jennifer have three children at home, Elsa (15), Evelyn (12), and Ian (9); their “bonus child,” Laken Johnson, is now a medical resident in Charleston, SC. The Prechts also have a black lab named Brother and a cat named Leia.
Michael’s favorite hobby is accompanying his kids to their theater performances or various outdoor activities. In between shows and adventures, Michael enjoys reading (especially history, economics, British novels, and C.S. Lewis), kayaking and fishing, and watching sports.
Most of all, though, Michael loves every bit being a pastor and building up God’s Church. In a world where trust in neighbors, institutions, and (especially) the Church is at an all-time low, Michael wants to “live a life worthy of the calling you have received, being completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love,” so that a distrusting world can recover its faith that there is still “one body and one Spirit, one hope; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
