Lamentation: 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
The book of Lamentation is not a lighthearted read. The author had been writing about how difficult and depressing his circumstances were in captivity. But then suddenly, in the middle of this bleak account, his thoughts take a startling positive turn toward the character of God. The weeping writer lifts his head and proclaims hope in the God of love and compassion.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”
This passage gives me great hope today, knowing that no matter how dark the days are, how exhausted we are, it doesn’t matter how difficult our circumstances are, what our diagnosis is, God’s steadfast love never ceases. Like the author of Lamentations, we can freely cry out to God in our pain and confusion. Yet, remembering God’s steadfast love and daily mercies, we also confess God’s faithfulness, and therefore we have hope.
Reflection:
When have you experienced God’s faithfulness in a particularly powerful way?
Let Us Pray:
Thank you, Lord, for this new morning.
May these words remain in my heart today and always.
Your steadfast love never ceases;
Your mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. Amen
Blessed Love,
