"We Will Get Through This"

"We Will Get Through This"

by Dr. Ann Pearson on July 06, 2020

As I write today’s devotional, I reflect on the changes in the world that have happened in my short lifetime.  At times I can’t understand how the world can be in such a difficult place and yet I have seen the hand of God in bringing us through it all.  The generations before us would be shaking their heads if they could see where the world is today.  I can’t begin to imagine what God is thinking!  I can hear my Daddy saying, “Just do right, love God and do what your Mama says.”  I wish it were that simple and maybe it should be.  Sometimes we make things harder than they need to be.  As we reflect on the Old Testament stories, so many times God’s people found themselves following their own path and not the path of God.  So we are not in a new time, it has been happening for years.  This is our time to claim our faith and be strong for one another.  When we put God first, we are putting our obedience into action.

God is needed daily as we travel through our life journey.  What I know about my own personal journey is through every storm and blessing of my life, God brings me through it all.  As I drive through rain storms when I can’t see the road in front of me, God is right there with me to bring me through.  When things don’t go as I have planned or when difficult situations arise in my life, God has been right there to console me and bring me through it all.  I can’t say everything turned out the way I wanted but I had the assurance God was right there with me.  Having our Heavenly Father, to come along beside us, lets us know we are never alone.  We need Him in our daily walk.

When my struggles were challenging and I had to wait for all the pieces to come together, I actually became stronger through the struggle.  During those waiting times, I discovered the precious moments with God were a blessing in disguise.  I learned more about myself and was able to surrender more of my life to God.  In giving myself the time for healing and reflection, I can say God was working out His plan, even though I just couldn’t see it at the time.  God desires us to become totally dependent on Him and let Him lead us through our daily walk.  I can’t say the struggles were easy but my perspective in the waiting proved to be God’s plan and not my plan.  Through it all, I have continued to learn to trust God and depend upon His Holy Word.

Walter Albritton, a Methodist minister and weekly columnist for the Opelika-Auburn News recently wrote a devotional that inspired me to share some of his words in these closing thoughts in today’s devotional.  He writes: “We need our faith during the trying times of our lives, faith that inspires us to grit our teeth and say, We will get through this!”  When Saint Paul grew weary of his “thorn in the flesh,” he heard the Lord say, “My grace is sufficient for you.” Although God allowed Paul to endure much suffering, Paul made his way through it all. His faith never wavered because he was confident that God’s grace was all he needed.

May we all experience the divine reassurance that regardless of what adversities we face in life there is a sure way to overcome each one and get through it.  Hope enables us to affirm to ourselves and others, “We will get through this!”  When spoken with courageous faith, these words can help hurting people believe they can handle their pain and move on.

Prayer:

Loving Father, we thank you for being beside us and with us always.  You provide in ways we can’t begin to see when we are in the midst of our circumstances.   You have shown us time and time again you will bring us through.   We love you Lord.  In Christ’s Holy Name, Amen

In God We Trust,

Ann
